Sometimes I Really Love Teaching History

Like today.  We’ve started a new unit of study on Imperial China.  We watched a short program, Engineering an Empire:  China, where they mentioned castration and eunuchs.  The students had no idea what castration was, they thought it was getting a cast put on.  Bwahahahaha!  I explained the procedure to them, in lurid detail, and what eunuchs were used for, while 7th grade boys wiggled uncomfortably in their seats.  But they did have lots of questions!

One girl asked why we were talking about this anyway, and I replied “It’s history!”
