I just entered an National Education Association (NEA) Members Insurance Trust contest: Who do you love?
Here’s my entry. Wish me luck.
In April 2000, these two lovely little girls came to live with me as foster children. Two years later we celebrated adoption day (shown in the photo). I met Cindy and Mindy in 1997, when one of their older brothers was in my 3rd grade class. That December their mother died, and the family was thrown into crisis. School staff worked hard with the father, who was left with five children under the age of 10- we donated clothes, food, took the children on outings, enrolled a couple in Little League. But eventually they were evicted from their home, and soon after, the children were removed by Child Protective Services.
These two little girls are now young women, and doing much better than when they first came to live with me. We have been through much these past twelve years, but I love them and want to make sure they will have some support and protection in case something should happen to me. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and are made in different ways. My job as a teacher brought me these two precious girls.
